Plot

The story revolves around Mahima, an innocent doctor, and her husband Mahendra Agarwal, a former cricketer from Jaipur. Mahendra had to give up his cricket dreams after repeated failures, ending up working at his father’s sports shop. Inspired by her husband, Mahima leaves her medical career to pursue cricket.

Critique

The film struggles with pacing issues and has a poorly written script. While the movie aims to showcase the imperfect partnership between the lead characters, it falls short and often feels slow and unengaging.

Rajkummar Rao Shines

Rajkummar Rao excels as Mahendra, portraying a middle-class boy juggling his dreams and family responsibilities. His interactions with Kumud Mishra, who plays his father, are particularly strong and emotional.

Janhvi Kapoor Tries Best

Janhvi Kapoor tries hard to do justice to her role as Mahima. Despite her efforts, her performance often gets overshadowed by Rajkummar Rao’s stronger presence. The film's unrealistic cricket scenes also detract from her portrayal.

Direction

Director Sharan Sharma, who previously worked with Janhvi Kapoor on Gunjan Saxena, fails to bring out the best in her this time. The direction doesn't fully capitalise on the potential of the story and characters.

Final Verdict

Mr & Mrs Mahi had the potential to be a heartfelt sports drama but is held back by its slow pacing and weak script. Despite some good performances and a decent soundtrack, the film doesn’t quite hit the mark.
